Everyone drink alone while looking at each other over Zoom?

Except with the addition of Zoom so we can watch each other

Isn’t it a little late to be planning a holiday party?

like

We did a holiday themed trivia party, jeopardy style I know of other firms that did a mixology class. They mailed everyone the ingredients (or sent out a list for people to buy) and then they had a partner (who, I think, had some previous experience) teach people how to make the drinks.

Personally, I'm not a fan of stuff like this. I'd rather have an extra hour off work or whatever than forced socialization.

Bottle of wine to each attorney’s house than a zoom happy hour.

Don’t.

If the group is small enough (around 15 or less), put someone in charge of buying fun but inexpensive gifts - games, adult coloring books w fancy pencils, mini drones - and host a steal-your-neighbors gift party. Send snacks or wine in advance (they can even choose their own thru Snackmagic). But prob not enough time to do this for 2021 hols.

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

Had an offer for 30% more , a promotion to manager, extra week of vacation to switch firms. I love where I am at with my clients and there is a lot of potential there. Should I stay the course?

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I have been told my work product is good, I don't turn anything down, I participate in non-billable work, I'm responsive and I always let people know I'm available to help. Do I need to be worried about getting fired for low hours?

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

Maybe it's because I'm in tax, but I've never dealt with these unreasonable Partners people speak of. I've never been told I can't go on vacation, or I've never been yelled at for not being in the office long enough. I've also never been iced out because of one mistake here or there.

During my first year, I struggled, and the partners I worked with went out of their way to take their time with me to help me learn, as did some of the senior-level Associates.

I told myself I would not be that person who quits during busy season but I am reaching my limit with PA. My mental health has been in shambles for years and I have found the years passing by with me doing nothing but work. I am anxious all the time even when on PTO, and I'm so close to just quitting with nothing lined up to take a mental break. Just wanted to rant.

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

When is it either allowed or seen as OK to start using FTO? I recently started here and while I’m not looking to slack off and take time off, I just want to know how it works. Why do I hear so much about consulting folks never using all their PTO (or even half of it sometimes). Do you guys not like to travel? Do you value work that much?

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?
