Anyone ever give themselves a gift for a promotion? I was just promoted and thought about getting something I wouldn’t otherwise get to celebrate. 24M for reference, I almost never spend money on anything besides rent, food, and going out on weekends.

Moneys meant to be spent, be reasonable but if you don’t enjoy the money you make why are you working? Treat yourself! You are a king my guy

I always plan a trip, while spending money on things is nice, I think experiences especially to a unique place or abroad you will never forget. However, I am planning after completing my first major project buying myself a nice watch. Being able to look down at the wrist and be reminded of all the hard work that got you the timepiece is also something I think is special.

A lot easier to explore cities, hike mountains, or travel in general when you are younger so if you have the money and are responsible with money better to travel.

I got myself a Le Creuset Dutch oven when I got hired at PwC and went out for a steak dinner when I got promoted to senior associate. Definitely worth commemorating your hard work! And definitely do whatever is going to make you happiest; whether that’s a watch, a car, or expensive cookware 😁

I purchased a nice watch for my first promotion. My plan is to use a portion of each promotion year end bonus to buy a new timepiece!

It’s funny how they say not to get one & then enjoy it a lot when you do. Just pick the right boat.

A nice bottle of champagne! My promo was from Analyst to Consultant so I didn’t go crazy on the price. I got a Mailly. Their brut $45 one is a budget friendly similar tones of Dom Perignon

^ Or a nice celebratory whisky/bourbon if champagne is not your thing. It also lasts longer than champagne after opening, and you can drink it for other celebratory occasions

I think you should celebrate every win pal! It's a massive achievement to receive any promotion. It's also a great time to reflect and think "Look how far I've come". That's always a good one 😁

Hey - 25m here. I got promoted and didn't really mark it. I think I bought like a pair of shoes from Nike 🤣 I would suggest a nice dinner with friends or family, or a break away. Other than that if you want a physical thing, then I'd suggest making it something substantial/memorable or something you use on a daily basis / have wanted for a while. Help me ask for a raise in my upcoming performance review? In sum, my company’s HQ is in Texas and I feel I’m being paid a Texas wage when I live in Los Angeles (the role is remote). We do have a San Francisco office and I want to ask my boss to match me what staff are making there. As that’s more comparable. Based off of Glassdoor, my salary matches Texas’s exactly and SF has the same role at 10k more. Should I show him the Glassdoor page? Don’t want to come off too strong. Please advise

I started interviewing early Oct with a company that reached out via recruiter. The hiring manager was very straight forward with me that I was his top candidate and I was told all other interviews were very positive incl CMO. The recruiter said they'd be making an offer but it's now been three weeks. Anyone else had the process drag on like this? Meanwhile I'm taking other interviews and was offered a promotion at current company, but was very interested in this one. What would you do?

Are there any fundamental differences between a salary negotiation during the start (applying for the job) vs. Salary negotiation during a performance review (you’ve been employed for x time and looking for a raise). I’m in the latter and wondering if there are any maneuvers that are different I should be doing.

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.
