Yes. I did this for 1 year. Saved up for it. Some of the sweetest days of my life. Hard, yes, but so sweet. There’s one thing I know for sure: there will always be dirty dishes, but babies don’t stay babies.
Yes! Totally doable. Consider freelancing in the meantime if you have skills beyond traditional AM (eg strategy, operations) and a strong network. Staying partially plugged in will really help if you do decide to go back FT.
Part time childcare has been so affordable and I enjoy more time with my little ones, plus maintaining my sanity not overextending myself constantly. Feel free to message me!
I dream about this as well. If you can make ends meet I don’t think you’d ever regret spending those extra years with your children. ❤️ the transition might be a challenge but when you look back at your life how could it not be special?
100% agree!!
I’m currently pregnant with our second and considering the same. Daycare cost is a huge factor in addition to the never ending illnesses. Glad I’m not alone. Sometimes feel even embarrassed to say I’m considering this so thankful the question was asked.
I wish this was talked about more, because there’s so much shame associated in mothering, but we all share the same thoughts. I just quit my job today to be at home with my 3 month old, but that doesn’t mean I’m not driven in my career. I just need a pause for this season of my life.
I’d say so! I left agency life in 2014 after my first was born. Had a second kid in 2016. Started a small agency in 2018 with a couple other ex coworkers to work on a few projects. (also moms who had left agency world) It kept me in the loop, up on my skills and I took a bunch of section 4 classes. Throw in kid 3 in 2019. Went back full time late 2022 with a very small, all remote agency. Those momming skills have made me an even better account person.
Look up “Mother Untitled” - it really gave me the perspective I needed about how career breaks can be beneficial for the working mom.
Do it! They grow up so fast, it’s worth stretching yourself financially to have that time with them. I took 8 years off and had no problem getting a SIP position again
In Canada maternity leave is 12-18 months. This doesn't seem unreasonable.
