Just understand that marketing is key for big blue. They sell beyond their capabilities usually, and then expect their people to meet demands anyways.
Yeah. Run away. As fast and as far as you possibly can. Unless, of course, you enjoy wading through endless bureaucracy, focusing all your energy on meeting a ridiculous utilization target, and hearing "be glad you have a job" when you receive a laughable raise. When I was there, company holidays and earned vacation counted against our utilization targets (which, IF actually legal, still means you're always fighting from behind on your yearly "PBC" targets). Utilization is all they cared about. Not innovation - unless you're working in a very select department. They don't care about your work-life balance at all. You're expected to be available 24-7 and work however long it takes to deliver. Layoffs or rumors of layoffs are a regular thing. Seriously, only work there if you are desperate to get big client names on your resume or you feel the name IBM helps you eventually get a job at whatever your dream company really is. I don't have experience working in the data science department but every department I worked with was beaten down just the same. MANY that stick around for more than a few years have either accepted 60+ hour workweeks (and working during their vacation) as the norm or they can't figure out how to get out.
