My partner told me something that might help. He said we have a big firm and do a lot of things. Chances are if you like to do something, we can find a place for you, whether it’s data analytics, digital marketing etc. Maybe if you express your preferences and you are a good employee, your company can accommodate? It’s worth a shot!

I’m curious here for myself as I relate to OP and am considering moving to industry. What’s an example for someone like OP that’d meet his needs/preferences within PA?

I went to industry but I completely relate to this thought process. The transition from accounting focus to sales focus never appealed to me

I feel this, OP. Man do I feel this...

Honestly, there is no shortage of seniors in the industry. If you don’t want to live past senior, I would be honest, communicate that, and if that doesn’t work, find a firm where they will be ok with that. Trust me, you will definitely find one.

like

It ain’t all it’s cracked up to be honestly... seniors / staff who don’t execute / care at the level you did in their position and directors / partners who trust you too much, to the point they don’t know what’s happening on your engagement and you consistently have to remind them why X, Y or Z is important and we should discuss as a team.

It’s like it can all fall on your shoulders unless you throw your hands up and say it’s not possible, but then, you’re not meeting or exceeding, so do you just stay quiet?

Sorry if this just furthers your feelings but it’s been my experience and grinds my gears more and more.

If you are ok with no jump in money, there is a good chance your firm will be ok. Maybe go into training? Go the National route if you are at a large enough firm.

Feel like audit scheduling is always done on a knifes edge in that the timeline and staff schedules are enough so that if everyone works 60 hour weeks and no issues are identified then it can be filed on time. But even small things that increase the work can wildly throw off the schedule and cause hours to skyrocket for the staff on the job. No real point here, just ranting.
