I have a seriously hard time working all day. I went straight through, so part of it is probably just that I've never worked in an office before, but I have the hardest time getting in all my hours. Anyone else deal with that fatigue? Or figured out how to conquer it?

Partner keeps telling me (2nd year) that I need to get better at using staff like paralegals to reduce client costs.....but doesn't realize that the only paralegal allocated to my group has been with the firm for 30 years and bills 1.5x higher than me.

I’m a big law attorney and thinking about getting my real estate license (brother is thinking about the same thing, so we’re thinking to go into some RE investing together). Thoughts? I know my firm wouldn’t ever let me actually represent someone as an RE agent, so then I’m wondering if there’s really any value to me getting a license?

I am sure this is a question with an obvious answer, but does anyone else just feel absolutely trapped in a job they hate because of their student loans? I’m three years out of law school and I still have $160K in student debt despite making aggressive payments. I work in a larger firm (not big law per se, but 250+ attorneys and big for the market). I am pretty unhappy with my job the vast majority of the time, but I feel like I have no options. $160k at 6% and 7% interest cannot be ignored.

Finally came to a final agreement and we’re reviewing for final signature. Then client is reviewing and decides they want something else modified. It’s a point of contention. OP has said no. Should I communicate this to client before pushing back against OP’s rejection of the mod?

When will I find my passion? I’m a criminal prosecutor chasing PSLF (5 years left). I am just not that into it. My wife is a teacher and loves her job so much she could work 16 hour days. I work in a midsize firm and we have the basic subscription to westlaw, which doesn’t include the ability to see filed briefs, motions, etc without incurring additional costs. I’m wondering if there is a service in the NJ/PA area that gives you access to previously filed motions and briefs? So if I’m drafting a summary judgment I could search the service and find a similar one. If this doesn’t exist.. I think I found the next million dollar idea lol

Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. Can I export a list with all emails I sent for the month? I would like to use it to compare to my billed time to make sure I don’t miss anything. Usually I go through my sent inbox but it has so much extra info so it’s not a quick scan. Plus outlook does weird things sometimes like combines conversations so I only see most recent sent item in that convo. Alternatively, do you have a good way confirming you caught all of your email time?
