I’m sorry you’re facing this. One thing to note, at least for most offerings, the hdhp may exclude fertility benefits. Usually you need to be on one of the PPO type choices to qualify. Would definitely call HR before you get stuck with unexpected costs
DM if you want to chat through it. Insurance is always complicated. In general, yes, you have to hit your deductible first. Meds are covered with a separate cap, and you access that through WinFertility. Generally, your RE’s office can talk you through it, but happy to offer any help that I can.
It’s been a couple years, but I believe you just pay the percentage until deductible and then it’s all covered. Check how your clinic bills too, some of my tests/procedures were just normal medical and didn’t count towards infertility. I thought I’d used it all up in round one but after 3 still had not hit the 25K. Meds were the same but all counted towards hitting deductible. I hit deductible two straight years and drained HSA but delivered in that 2nd fiscal year so at least it was covered. 🤷🏼♀️ Good luck and the UHC people I called/emailed were all very helpful in telling me what I had left for coverage, etc.
Which clinic did you go?
It’s not very detailed in the plan documents if it’s subjected to the deductible or not.
Which clinic are you planning to hit up? I just found RMA cost for IVF end to end is 25 K plus meda
Did 2 failed IUIs this fall and finishing our first IVF cycle next week. Fingers crossed.
We also have the high deductible plan and was under the impression when we went into this that the fertility benefit was separate. However, we found out that you need to hit the deductible first before the fertility benefit kicks in. The medical benefit is separate, but you will still have a 10% copay and have to order from Freedom Pharmacy. Happy to chat if you want
Just starting down this process. I live in the bay area and my wife is with Kaiser insurance while I have the United high deductible from PwC.
Apologize for the ignorant question but what is the Freedom system being discussed about?
