Anyone here in the Tampa Bay, Florida area ? I haven't been in the market for a while, so I'm curious what compensation expectations are for family law paralegals these days. I was with a small firm that did criminal and family making terrible money (I am not sure why I took the role in the first place), and the firm closed its doors. Hourly rates? Bonuses? Benefits? 5+ years experience in family; 10+ years of other relevant. I'm not sure what I should expect; I feel like a beaten puppy. Help!

I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. And once it closed, the lead attorney praised the other attorneys, and said nothing about me or my work. I might just be overly sensitive, but it kind of stung. Thoughts?

So I have my bachelors in criminal justice and I just finished my paralegal certificate course today. My attorney should be making partner this year. With that being said I told her that I would complete my certificate by the summer around the time she would make partner. Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!
