I did this exact same thing
I had 2 offers and one had a higher offer and better wlb but I knew it wouldn’t be that interesting compared to the other role I wanted. Tbh I don’t regret it because I’m not burnt out and can spend more time with my daughter she’s currently 5 years old and prior to that I had multiple jobs with horrible wlb or pay or both.
I don’t regret taking the offer but I do wonder what it’s like if I had taken the more interesting job.
I’m a single mother and so I chose the better wlb and $$ for my daughter. I do plan on loookin maybe after 7 months to see what else is out there but I definitely dont wanna take less pay or less wlb with my situation.
Doesn’t hurt to loook but for now I’m using this as “takin a break”
You’re not alone I made the same sacrifice too! It’s bittersweet
🙋🏼♀️ yes and I laugh all the way to the bank.
WLB all the way. I have a 5 and 2 year old and do not regret being able to pick them up from school, going on field trips with them, and having dinner every night with them. I switched jobs 6 months ago to a slightly more demanding but way more interesting job for much more money…and I have moments of regret of giving up the cushy wlb job because I don’t get to be a room parent or have as much flexibility (albeit I still pick up kids from school and have dinner most nights with them, just less time to volunteer at their schools). But the higher pay has afforded us being able to send our kinder to an amazing private school.
I mean if they’re paying you well there’s no harm. Your baby is also just 3 months old so I would suggest the better wlb for sure. If the other job was paying more and was more interesting then I would’ve gone for that but probably not right now when the baby is so small.
I did. I went in-house when I had a baby.
This exact thing has been weighing on me lately. I have a 2yo and while I love my job it can get so demanding, especially during planning season. So while I work until midnight to only hear my toddler cry at 12:30a and rock him back to sleep and then go to bed .. wonder if I find a more “boring” less demanding job would it fulfill me in my career. (I’m very career oriented and something I’m scared if I take another route I’ll be so unhappy with job)
But the WLB…. I want haha
I have alternated between platform product and client-facing product every few years since my kids were born. They are 6 & 8 now. I lasted 8 months - two times! - in the client roles. Platform gives me way more flexibility as far as when and where I get my work done. And my teams don’t seem to mind my WFH uniform — mom bun, target tee, leggings. I couldn’t say the same for clients 😂 that’s an hour of my life back right there. I get to take them to Girl Scouts and gymnastics. Sometimes they join my meetings. My job can be demanding — last week was a lot of late nights — but that’s because I get to pick them up from school, hang out before dinner, and pick back up when they’re in bed. I don’t miss the days of being locked in my office, only hearing about their little lives, for a few minutes, while packing their lunches in the morning.
