Hello! I am looking for two new Texas teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy
If you have any questions feel free to email me at stephanie_asselin1@baylor.edu.

I moved to Melbourne from London, although I had a year-long pitstop in another country due to Australia’s COVID border closures.
I personally miss London. But it’s not a like-for-like comparison since I was living in Zone 1 London and I live in suburban Melbourne. I was no-car Tube-reliant in London, but I now drive unless I take the train to the CBD in Melbourne (traffic to & parking in the CBD are a nightmare) since the public transportation isn’t as extensive or reliable (although there are way less strikes). I’m also in a different phase of life since I’m married now and we are expecting our first child vs. being a young adult in London.
Australia has a fraction of the UK population over a much larger area, so it just means less options — every industry is an oligopoly, so 2 supermarkets, 3 telcos, 4 banks, etc. — and less innovation/convenience — e.g. despite an e-commerce boom during COVID lockdowns, items take about a week to arrive, which is crazy when you have to pay for shipping (and pay to ship returns), so people are returning to stores. It also means a limited choice of employers, although salaries are higher than London, and they have a clear preference for Australian applicants.
While the coffee has been excellent, there is a housing and cost-of-living crisis in Australia, although not as bad as the UK (although Sydney might be as bad). And another thing to keep in mind is that Australia is far away — one of the closest countries is NZ which is a 4-hour flight vs. Europe being at your fingertips. Living in Melbourne is a different lifestyle that hasn’t really been my cup of tea as a city slicker that loves to travel. But there are tons of people that move here and love it.
That’s massively helpful, thank you, plenty of food for thought for me
