I’ve taken it to Santa Barbara. It’s definitely pretty along the last stretch that takes you next to the beach. You can enjoy a glass of wine and look at the coast. Also it’s 100 percent worth upgrading to business class.
I have, from OC. It’s way more relaxing than driving. I would advise Biz class as the previous commenter suggested.
yeah it’s not too long on the train, it’s the trip to and from the train, unless you happen to be within walking distance of the stations. The stations down here in OC aren’t near much. There’s stuff to do in some areas but depends what you like.
I used to go to school in Santa Barbara and have had to take it a few times. It's not worth it imo, the drive itself is fairly pleasant and beautiful and the Amtrak just takes forever
Definitely business class. It’s worth it to SB, but IMO, the leg from SB to SLO is the best part as it takes you on a rail line on the coast that is on federal land and not accessible by car. Stunning.
It’s def worth it to go to Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. I’ve left out of Union Station and even that was a pleasant experience because of how structurally beautiful Union Station is. An easy, low-key way to visit the central coast. I did have to rely on Lyfts/Ubers once I got to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo but I’m sure you’d be able to take the bus around as well, if preferred.
Rising Star
Not to SB and SLO, but I used to take the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego for work.
Amazing ocean views.
