My SO and I reached a point a few years ago (after we paid off grad school loans) that it just wasn’t worth it for us personally to deal with the inflexibility of economy basic (and also that the $50 cheaper flight departing from JFK instead of LGA is ABSOLUTELY not worth it)
Never had but got 1-way of my upcoming Christmas ski vacation in BE on AA for $69/person. If I need to change, I will just see that as a sunk cost of an option because I would have to pay fare difference anyway (which will be $$$) the closer we get to holidays. And my fam is all seated together and I get checked bags through status. Seemed worth it for this specific scenario.
Never, but mainly because I don’t want to sit in a middle seat and board in group fifty with no carry-on space.
I do, but only when 1) I’m certain of my travel plans and 2) I have some existing status with the airline to mitigate restrictions
Yes agree!

Never
Non changeable is the biggest reason (tho United now allows buy-up from BE for $50/$100 domestic/intl per way+fare difference). I change my flights too often and things always happen last minute.
Plus I don't get any relevant elite perks
Literally never. Flexibility is too valuable, plus I always have a carry-on, etc.
Never, but also older. Heck I find flying in business still tires me.
Fortunately, we are financially comfortable now.
A little contrary. If you are certain of travel times and don’t care about the restrictions. Why not?
Not just dates, the other restrictions like you are traveling light and don’t mind middle seats. If you don’t have status you have to pay for the premium seats where a lot of aisle and windows are blocked anyways. Personally middle seat doesn’t bother me.
Commenting on a particular airline, or all of them?
