Are any Big Law firms in the Houston market known for leading to more desirable in-house opportunities for exiting associates than their peer firms? Current mid-level who's never lateraled, but would like to land in-house in the oil & gas/energy sector 18-24 months from now. Realize there are a lot of factors at play with in-house roles, but just curious if others have seen/noticed any trends.

Starting to realize that the workload in Public Accounting isn’t bad, it’s fitting it in after 8 hours of back to back meetings that’s the tricky part.

Anyone else in the “here for a good time not a long time” club? This job gets a lot more tolerable when you don’t actually need it (no intention to make partner, no loans, etc.). I generally do good work, but I’m happy being a B associate, I don’t dwell on small mistakes or what partners think of me, I take my vacations and never overwork myself to “look good”. All this to say, you don’t need to be an A+ associate to stay employed. Try being a B associate, it’s a lot more fun.

Question on UK visa-
My partner will be traveling often to London, once a month for an year starting September. He is getting his visa through work (10 years, multiple entry, 6 months max stay, cost some $1000).

I have applied for standard tourist visa in the past and they are usually short term. It could be max 6 months, but they see your itinerary and allocate you few months around the itinerary

Is there a way to get 6 months multiple entry visa, if I were to join him once in a while.

A company offered a role, but then went back to the legal team to see if they can do H1 transfer. The job is not aligned with my degree but my past 9 years of work ex has been. How do I try to convince them?

Hi Everyone - Need some insights. My PERM process was started by company in Feb’22 (currently awaiting wage determination, submitted to DOL in May’22). Its been months and DOL is working on requests from Jan’22. My H1B expires for good in Oct’23 (with all the recapture). Is there any chance I’ll have my PERM completed by then? I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI.
