Like other people said, it’s worth it if you genuinely care about brands and image.
For me it isn’t, and I personally buy unbranded bags from local artisan leather crafters. The price is less, the quality is usually great, and they’re local so if I ever need a repair, I can just call them and drop it off a few blocks away. And I have been able to ask them for custom pieces before. Like if I want a specific shape or feature on a bag.
For imposter syndrome, you should make a list of things you like/want and consider if you actually like each item or if you like it because other people like it. Note the items/qualities that you actually like in a bag or any style purchase, and align your decisions to that. If you’re doing it for you and you alone, you don’t need to impress anyone else
Thanks for sharing. I love local artisans too.

It takes more than a bag. Then comes the shoes, clothing, outer-wear, car, home, vacations, jewelry, never ending if you are doing this for image. Might as well start buying pieces now. For me? Rule of thumb: wealth is silent.
Problem with Birkin and Kelly is that you’ll have to spend a lot of money on other stuff (that you may or may not want) to be offered one (in a configuration you may or may not want.) Unless you go preowned at a markup. If it’s your dream to own something nice and that dream never goes away, why not treat yourself if you have the financial means to do so? I wouldn’t worry about image at all. Turns out the people who are decked out in “luxury” goods head to toe are the ones more likely to buy fakes to overcompensate and show off their nonexistent “wealth.”

Worth meaning what?
Investing for what?
If you have the money and you want it and will use it consistently just buy it.
1 - depends on where you are located. Dallas, for instance, it is necessary to look professional. 2 - I like to have one simply because a good bag can dress up any casual outfit so you look overall just a little nicer.
It’s worth it. I always wanted this Chanel bag for years and I didn’t buy it and now I realized I still like that one bag and I finally bought it. If I bought it 3 years ago I can saved myself 5k increase in price. Buy what you like!!!
Very few people who buy top designer bag models ask if it’s worth it, in the way that you probably mean.
Also, I’m not sure I understand how someone who can afford a birkin (say, base model at $20K) is asking this question. And by “afford”, it’s not just having the money in the bank. It’s being ready, able, and willing to spend such an amount on a purse. There’s a guy on IG who dissects premium leather goods to explain the price of components and workmanship. The general theme is that you’re paying huge premiums for the branding. Make of that what you will.
It really is a personal decision/point of view. For what it’s worth, if you do decide to purchase one, I’ve found it’s best to find one that suits you/your uses/your style. I recently bought my first YSL in Paris after debating between a few options, but the sales woman was amazing and I walked away with the right bag (& card holder) for me.
I looked at buying a luxury purse as both an investment & making sure I wasn’t about to buy the same thing that everyone else has or tends to be replicated in cheaper forms. The LV Neverfull is very ubiquitous & most Bottega bags have great dupes on Amazon for $40, so for me they’re both a pass. Put me in a LV store with a glass of champagne & a Capucines in front of me and I’ll be swiping my card again haha!

Define "worth it" for you. By the sound of it I think you would find greater joy in spending money on something custom or more individual maker. There are some incredible makers out there who hand make bags or clothes that aren't cheap in the slightest but set you apart from the pack. And might not feel as awkward as walking around with a YSL if you aren't comfortable doing so.
Be comfortable with yourself and your own skin. If you have imposter syndrome, getting a birkin won't make that go away. You will eventually look for the crocodile birkin or the next thing up.
I have an Hermes bag and so far, I am loving it. It was a milestone gift and I will always remember the meaning behind it. You can always put that money in investment, and there is never an end to investing. But at what point do you say, I am doing well and should spend money to make yourself happy.
Get one if you want to. I personally don't because I can't have nice things (I don't treat items well and also clumsy). Thinking a bag will up your image is the wrong way to go about it. Just get the bag because you really like it.
If it makes you happier than other possible uses of your money, do it.
I personally derive great joy from my carefully selected designer pieces. I use them all the time (that’s key) and they fit with my personal style.
Don’t do it because you think you have to.

But from China. Taobao. You get the same experience without the cost. Negligible difference in quality if bought from right sellers.
In this day and age why carry a large purse? All you need is a small wallet to carry your phone and a few credit cards, your ID and medical / dental insurance and your bank card. I do that and have found it incredibly freeing!
Get him his own crossbody bag!
First world problems be like…
I recently learned what Goyard was and saw a lady with a huge bag at the airport, I thought “oh I know what that is” and that was it. Not into it. Not into luxury watches for men either so 🤷♂️
Editors note: Yes. it is convenient that I’m not into things I can’t afford.
eh.. I’m one of those people that puts my purse down on the ground in the mud lol and that’s if I even use one. So to me, no, not worth it. If I spend any real money, it’s typically on hand made goods by local artisans.
I love Louis Vuitton lol will always treat myself if I can
Stop trying to impress people you don’t like

They do sell them. Especially something like a Birkin, where just having the cash isn’t enough to buy one, the resell market is strong.

You have to tell us if they’re worth it. You may have different needs than us
If you can find a limited edition or rare version you’ll do well - enjoy it and then sell it later if uh what to
