Are thank you emails after an interview necessary? Sounds like overkill to send a COO and GC thank you emails when they have 5k different things going on. My last two interviews I sent thank you emails I received rejection emails in return. It does appear to be a good way to streamline the decision process lol.

I’ve seen people lose out to a competitor because they did not send a thank you and a competitor did. Do with that what you will. But I always send them.

The last time I sent a thank you e-mail I got ghosted. I have gotten jobs after I sent one, but I’ve also gotten plenty of jobs without having ever sent a thank you e-mail. I don’t think it necessarily hurts or helps if you weren’t otherwise going to get the job. It may be helpful in cases where you’re a runner up candidate and it’s a tough choice between you and one other. It’s really up to you and how you feel.

I have never sent and it hasn't impacted me. On the other side, when I get them as the interviewer, I delete and think either whatever or that was awkward. They have never changed my mind about whether someone is qualified or the right for the role.

Anyone here in partnerships management or business development or strategic alliances development? I’m in a BizOps role today and have been trying to break into this space without much luck. Hiring managers / recruiters always say the same thing when they do give feedback - that they’re looking for someone that has experience in the same role. What’s the best way to break in? It’s not like there are business development classes like there are coding classes where I can learn the job.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Starting a new position in a few weeks and have an opportunity to speak with my future boss before starting. Is there anything I should ask before starting that wouldn’t already have been covered in the interview? I was thinking about asking if I should read up on anything before starting, but I also don’t want to impose obligations on myself if I don’t have to. Fwiw going from firm to in-house. TIA!

I have one pro bono case that I kept when I left my firm to go in house. It’s a matter completely unrelated to my company and I have malpractice insurance through the nonprofit organization associated with the case. I’ve made clear to my client that I’m repping this client in my personal capacity. No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

A recruiter reached out with a new role for 2-2.5x more than I currently make doing something similar. I love my company and the people I work with but the money isn’t there. Is it worth trying to get a counter to stay if I get the bigger offer?
