Are the projects at BCG Platinion really that different than Big 4 tech consulting? Is the BCG brand worth switching from D if you’re not an actual BCG strategy consultant? I wonder if I should

Never get why some people think “strategy” is all that sexy, now I’d rather get on a digital case and learn to be more technical with Platinion folks. Strategy’s definition is vague and shouldn’t be contained to some pricing cases, cost reduction or valuation work. When digital & technical aspects become mission critical to deliver value/services to the client(because that is mostly what we do), then what is “strategy” and what is “tech consulting”? I’d think long term going from here on now, because we are at a really interesting time.

And I think people = mostly our brand, our bar is high no matter what. To me it’s obvious because our HR/IT/any other support teams are all truly top notch and professional.

Oh boy... what were the roles you were talking to headhunter about? If it was PE portfolio analyst or Corp dev, sure, but if it’s a technical director or CTO etc, guess if they care more for your M&A experience or tech consulting experience? It’s what you want and what you look for. When all companies become tech companies to some degrees, wouldn’t “tech consulting” just be “consulting”? Own that shit proud. That’s part of where we going with the whole DigitalBCG shebang. Technical skill sets take time to accumulate and are increasingly demanded in consulting overall, because again we are service provider in a sense. And long term implementations? No, if you think clients would pay Platinion rate to do “long term implementation”, then you don’t quite get their value prop and strengths, it’s new and growing, but they aren’t going after that Accenture ERP 2 year support SOW, clients not gonna pay that deep fees.

lmao, only mildly facetious.

If OP is interested in tech to begin with, then they should view all their consulting roles as a steppingstone to a role within a tech focused org. FAANG is pretty much a placeholder for that outcome (though some, e.g. Google, admittedly have pretty good comparative ratios of pay to hours worked)

I’d also add that if you’re going to swing through MBB for a quick stop, post-MBA is preferable...Same hours with more pay haha.

Stay at D one more year, go to b school, and apply to traditional MBB vs BCG PLA now. Thoughts?

First option is much better

It's the client base BCG has, no matter you are in classic consulting, pla, or gamma. Other firms just can't beat the senior interaction MBB has. You might be doing similar type of works in D, but you won't get the opportunity to meet the senior clients that often, if at all. It's WHO you know, not so much WHAT you know.

I work on a consulting team at a large software company. I’m a job hopper, around 2 years each at my first and second jobs and a little over a year at this job. I recently found out they’re shutting my team down.
