I don’t see how it could happen being that the whole business model is based on billable work. Even if billing per project an agency would have to know how many hours each project is actually taking so they can bill appropriately for future projects.
I haven’t done a timesheet in nearly 10 years. Went from anomaly to a couple indies.
Rising Star
How are they billing / tracking profitability? Sounds like paradise.
It’s easier to accomplish if you’re on retainer work. Over here in PR Land, client needs come and go like the wind, as do their budgets, so getting rid of timesheets is near impossible.
Does anyone really tell the truth on those? I just 40 every week since I can’t keep track of what hours go to what every day.
Wow! As a manager this makes me cringe. Track it in your outlook calendar. Every time you do something, record it. Accurate hours is the only way we know how to set an appropriate budget for projects and the way we measure profit margins. It’s more than counting hours.
72andsunny doesn’t either
Time sheets are bulls#!t. Yeah it keeps track of how much time you spent on things for the company, but are they paying you more for that extra time?
No. It just allows them to know in the future they should bill more for something in which they are still paying you the same set salary for. You’re helping them make more money while you’re slaving extra hours.
It is true, some of the indies (and even non-indies, like Anomaly) don’t do timesheets.
The ‘pros’ of anomaly might be no time sheets. But the ‘cons’ list stretches on for miles and miles.
Indies don’t. Mine doesn’t.
Anomaly
Chiat doesn't do timesheets! Heaven
I worked at a small indie that didn’t do them. Everything was bid out for the entire project that had to be completed within a set window of time. The biggest issue was that we had no documentation of how long things took to help inform future scopes.
