Are there any exercises or routines that you go through to jump start your creative process or are you usually able to dive right into the work that you’re doing?

Usually, I can jump right back into my projects. When I feel stuck, I try to look for inspiration in the unusual things around me.

like

Yea that usually helps me too. What unusual things have you found inspiration in? I usually feel like consuming and learning about a bunch of different things can often spark inspiration and connections to design work

I can dive right in, but that doesn’t always mean I’m making productive progress at the start! Sometimes I can already feel that my brain isn’t going to cooperate, and I need to try and do something else to help. A coworker just shared something that helps them a lot. They called it a sensory reset. So either listening to a different kind of music or taking a walk around the building, just gets you out of your current senses.

like

Ooh I like that! That actually makes a lot of sense since doing something different can take you out of that cycle of thinking around the same thing

Would you mind helping an art director who also lectures in art direction schools please: what has been the most exciting or memorable or useful lecture in your Art Direction school/course as students? I want to give real value they can spend professionally and not blah blah, so I am interested in what you people have considered a valuable input.
Please no suggestions like "Change your studies until it's too late" (because I have already done that lesson haha --and they are still there)

Hey fishies! I’m looking to take a leap into the remote world. I am a Sr. Graphic designer and art director in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦. I’m looking to take on more of an art director and creative director role, remotely. I can attach my website and a portfolio if anyone can help out. I have been designing professionally now for just over 15 years now. I work very quickly and very well with other team members. I also take on freelance work. I’m married with 2 kids so the more work the better.

I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work? Or just chill out? I just feel very confused. Are a lot of full time jobs like this?
