M&a tax
Any particular firm(s)? I’ve heard M&A at PwC is brutal with their hours; the work seems super duper cool tho. I’m honestly not opposed to going 80% at the manager level though, knowing that there are surges of need. I don’t really need more $, I need a life lmao.
“PwC is quickly turning into a dumpster fire.” Yes, I’m sure the firm that you have been at for a few years and has been around forever is suddenly turning into a dumpster fire. How will they survive?! 🤦♀️
Every company, much less b4 form is in the shitter during covid. Haven’t you seen the studies? Something like 60% of employees want to quit their job. It’s not reserved for just accounting. Everyone is suffering right now unfortunately.

As a mid tier guy, I will say don’t come to a mid tier expecting WLB. Busy season is pretty much year-long here too
Yes, there will be a nice variety of work and industries but you will have less resources and technology to help you
I would suggest seeking out a small boutique firm in your area that has the tax work you enjoy the most. Be up front about your WLB expectations when interviewing as well

Boutique firm means it’s a small firm usually 1 or 2 offices with like 10-50 staff, that can either be a general firm that does all types of tax work or a sole focus on R&D credits. All of them are unique so the best way to learn about them is to go on the interviews
The nice thing usually at these firms there are no big firm politics/culture (every mid tier including CR now thinks they are big 4 now) and it’s generally a nicer environment
Also be sure to ask about a path to partner since it seems like you want to stay in public for the long term
