This might be too ambiguous to answer, but I want to get better at taking iniative, but I don't know how. I can be pretty shy in work settings. I do things without being told, but I want to go beyond that like start projects etc. Provide more value.

Has anyone experienced a superior (even a partner) bringing up political topics during meetings or one-on-one conversation? How did you (or the team) react and how did you engage or evade the topic?

If you were attracted to a subordinate coworker would you by all means try to avoid being placed on same engagement team to avoid obvious or put more effort and request that they be put on your team?

I work for a specialized group in my litigation group and have had a wonderful experience and really respect and appreciate my boss, the co-chair of this specialized group. I’ve now accepted the opportunity to take over my parents business and plan to leave practice this summer. How do I even start this conversation with him? Have an interview with a growth stage startup, what should I wear for a virtual interview ?

I have a virtual interview tomorrow through Teams - 1) what is appropriate to wear for a video interview? Should I treat it as an in person and wear a blazer? 2) I’ve used teams plenty on my work computer but never on my personal computer/through my personal email - any ideas on how to make sure it works? I got reprimanded by a man for having an uninspired point of view of a conference call. He then gave me his inspired POV...which was exactly the same. When I pointed that out he said, “huh. Maybe.”

Part of a BD now, thinking of going on my own as RIA. Costs would be about 50% less, which makes it seem like an obvious choice. Have a deep family friend relationship with current firm, though. A company didn’t follow through with a scheduled intro phone call. I emailed during the time scheduled to see if something had come up & after as well to reschedule.
