As a librarian, these new Idaho policies seem totally out of place to me! Should kids not have access to learning and reading materials without an adult present? Would you support this same policy at your local library?

I'm of two minds about this.

As a parent who is also a voracious bookworm and longtime denizen of the local libraries everywhere I've lived, there are many books in the library that I would not want my child reading, mostly due to them not being developmentally appropriate and some because the subject matter is objectionable. In that particular context, I don't see a problem with this particular policy. It's effectively no different than having parental controls on phones/internet/etc.

On the other hand, this continues the nationwide trend of infantilization across pretty much every sector that impacts the public, regardless of age or subject matter. As parents, we should be responsible for instilling the correct values in our kids so they know what kinds of books are acceptable and appropriate to check out without the nanny state mandating it for us.

I’m curious as to whether this sign is at the front entrance to the library itself, or is it at the entrance to the “adult” section? I am firmly in the camp of unrestricted reading for all age groups, but could see why a library might not want young kids running around unsupervised in an area where adults are trying to experience a quiet environment.

It’s also a pretty universal truth that the more “forbidden” you make something, the more kids want to get at it.

I'm moving from Scotland to London in September, looking to buy a flat, what are some nice / ok areas within 45 minute commute of Paddington?

Looking around the £300-£350k mark.

Obviously viewing are tricky just now so would prefer to avoid any areas that are overly...stab-y from my search to save some time.

I've been exploring exit opportunities for a few months and still holding out for the right opportunity. However, I've had A LOT of recruiters reach out to me for positions that are way below my current salary. They do the whole "your background and expertise is exactly what we're looking for" then turn around and offer a salary range that is 20k below my current level. My resume clearly says I've got 10yrs experience and an MBA. I **don't think* I should be getting offers of 80k-100k

BCG PIPE Practice

I work at a hedge fund now. I spent a number of years in consulting earlier in my career. I’ve made some $ but the job is lonely. Thinking of returning to consulting.

1) Is the PIPE practice only due diligence projects? Or any segmentation of the service line beyond general “DDs”?

2) I’m 2011 out of undergrad and have done a few years of consulting and a few at a HF. Would I come in as a PL? Principal? How is this decided? What is typical profile of laterals who come in here

My target promotion year on TOD is 2022. My manager said we might sell to client and extend this project in September but nothing guaranteed.

Do Leidos, SAIC, and other mostly-fed consulting businesses pay bonuses to all levels? If so, what does a typical bonus target look like? Booz Allen does not pay bonuses until you get to the Senior Associate level (1 step below Director) and I think that impacts employee performance and work ethic pretty dramatically. I’m wondering if not paying bonuses is common to federal contracting because of how the contracts or priced, or if this is something unique to Booz Allen.
