I typically always approve. I keep my team happy and the net output of their work product is higher than if I were to micromanage.
I've never denied PTO regardless of the notice period. And I've had a couple one day notice requests recently...probably more than any other year. I think there is a lot of stress going around and I am hoping they are taking a mental health day.
Regardless I've never had a project where I couldn't make up the work myself or manage it in plan. But then again my teams are always professionals and I trust them to make good decisions.
👏🏼 👏🏼. PTO is a right and we shouldn’t shame our team members for using their earned time off. We should 100% encourage and support them so they come back recharged & ready to do great work for you + team
I wonder if the reason behind the sudden pto request is something urgent or something specific came up that made the employee request pto without giving prior notice while knowing the rules. I hope he/she is ok and I suggest you check on them

There is something called sick day. Don’t think Managers need to approve that
Just ask a reason if it’s that short notice. I had to take PTO with one day’s notice because my mom had a heart attack, and I was getting on that plane regardless if it got approved or not. Just use some communication skills and common decency.
Approve but Say something like “I hope everything is ok!” If you want more notice, make that clear and tell your people. Say- I expect xx days notice unless an emergency, with an explanation. You’ll pick up on abusers pretty quickly!
Also pretty sure there is no approval required in your process. Might want to check with HR.
My PTO calendar invites are to be recieved not as questions (can I have the day off?) , but warnings (there is someone covering and I won't be there). If anyone ever had a problem with my PTO my response would be "should I bother coming back?"
Yeh if they had something serious going on that they need to attend to they should give some hints at that but if not deny
I’d approve.
Approve but inform them that they need to give more notice in the future

Just use common sense.
Do your very best to say yes
Be careful. Read Accenture policy on this one.
Curious - what is it?
