As a solution architect do you need to be able to code or just come up with a strategy?

You should know platform capabilities and limits in detail, be able to configure advanced flows and other declarative platform tools, etc. But writing code is rarely done by solution architects.

Agree with the above and I will also say "it depends". In the sense that, there are roles out there which people hire for that require it.

I personally feel, when it comes to Salesforce, on one hand you don't need it - mock what the code will do in Flow and get a real dev to write it - but also, there are so many code examples and ChatGPT that, if you really want some PoC-quality code, an SA should be able to piece that together.

I have Advanced Admin too because Salesforce Proserv made me get it when I was there lol. The topics are useful. But they are things either covered by other certs, or stuff you can look up at any time as a real admin... They should call it "Admin 2" because "Advanced" Admin is really the set of skills covered by the Application Architect designation.

Also "System Architect" should really be "Platform Architect" and "CTA" should be like, "Distinguished Salesforce Architect". But they didn't ask me!

smart

You don’t necessarily need to code, but you should know when to use code. You should know what shitty code looks like, e.g. the devs put logic into an Apex trigger.

I have 9 certifications and a lot of industry, and consulting experience. I've never coded, beyond some sql, and have found a lot of success as Solution Architect.

Hi All, just sharing what on mind to vent it out from my system. Maybe with this I could gain some insights and inspiration.
I have been working as a data scientist since 2018 & have been the bread winner. I have neither been under a proper mentor nor with a team of peers from my field to help me out. I was alone and confused. I have never really got the chance to prove myself which makes me all the more depressed. I'm not sure what to do with my future, indecisive and low on confidence.

Wondering if it makes sense to apply for an Enterprise Architect (pre-sales) or a Senior Technical Architect role??

Also in terms of seniority and salary are these roles any different?

What does an exit from Salesforce consulting look like? I’m in a technical role leading a small team so my understanding is a technical/solution architect or a development team lead at either Salesforce or an end user like Amazon/Amex.

I have bounced around a couple consulting companies so would prefer not to do it again. Total 4 YOE.

I don’t think I have enough YOE to go for a program architect role at SF otherwise I’d be interested.
