As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant of 3 years at a pediatric practice in Atlanta Georgia , I’ve only gotten a 70 cent raise since being with the company to a pay out of $16.70 per hour. Is this a reasonable salary? What are your thoughts , should i demand more?

No, it’s not a reasonable hourly. Ask for more or find another job elsewhere.

Come to Minnesota! It’s a frozen tundra this time of year, but we are desperate for experienced LDAs! I personally know a DDS who has been looking 6 MONTHS and offering $38/hr, $5K signing bonus and full benefits INCLUDING health insurance!

That’s not reasonable at all!

Are you in a private office or a state "cinic type" office?

I would absolutely demand more! That’s ridiculous and Atlanta is a MCL city. How are you even staying afloat? My last DA position, which was more like DAII/Ortho Assistant/Office manager, I got paid twice as much and I live in LCL area. I would negotiate or explore your options. With Aspen being a huge company they probably won’t budge much, but you have a plethora of opportunities in your area you should definitely consider. 😊👍🏽

Go shopping around for a higher paying job. You are an EF. You r worth more than that. Call up the dental agency in your city to find out your wages add 5 dollars more to it too. Good luck.

Wow we pay DAs more than that in CA, granted our cost of living is higher

I would ask for a raise. I only had 1 year of experience and was making between $12 and 16. I didn’t keep the lowest paying long because I wouldn’t be able to survive off that but I explored my options.

I am an unlicensed DA in MN and started off at $20/hour. You’re worth more than that, with everything that is included in the job description. Demand your worth. Especially since you’re in pediatrics, which is harder and more strenuous.

It must just be a georgia thing. It's the same way with my company.

My company has an office in that area if you’re interested, and I know that they can find you a much better paying position with the experience that you have. Please let me know if you’re interested.

I live in Georgia as well. I was a hiring manager at a multi specialty practice and this pay is a little low for the amount of experience you have. Starting out, Yes that pay sounds about right.
Unfortunately, in GA we dont get paid well in this profession. There are definitely some offices that will pay what you are worth (for GA at least). I would definitely keep your resume updated and keep your eyes open for a better opportunity. If they aren't willing to give you a raise, find somewhere that appreciates your value.

It’s not reasonable. That’s crazy low. I paid more than $30 10 years ago.

The area of GA I’m in seems to be low as well. I run 2 offices and hold the office together with 10 years experience, and my hourly wage is less than $30.

When I was hired, I don't recall being informed about my salary being tied to my location. My employment contract also only makes one mention of location, and says "home office" and my state. I was recently told by HR though that if I move, my comp. will be lower. Is this legal? Should I consult a labor lawyer?

In my mind, I don't recall being told this and it's not clear from my employment contract, so I feel like they're breaking our agreement, and it feels unfair.

Hello everyone I have 29 years as a dental professional in Texas. I started as a dental assistant back in 1993. As my career progressed as a RDA, I moved to the front office and eventually management. I even taught dental assistants and became the Program Director of a DA program. COVID opened up remote work for me, I manage eclaims, claims corrections and billing for two offices. $20 per hour, no bonuses or incentives, I know I am not getting paid enough! Any input would be appreciated.

I've been a dental assistant for 11 years , and I think I'm done . I feel the pay is never enough and 9/10 we do the most work in the office . It's never commensurate to what we do and no matter how much experience you have your still 3-5$ more than someone fresh out of school . It's a skill I'm glad to know that I can always find work but the burnout for nothing isn't worth it. Can anyone relate
