Fair warning —be sure to fully understand what you are up against in today’s job market and what it takes to land a new job. The market is over-saturated, hyper-competitive, and many people who have already mastered resume re-writes, interviewing strategies, and networking are struggling to find employment.
I think a lot of people who aren’t actively job searching have no idea how bad the job market really is. This is quite possibly the most challenging job market in two decades given the tariffs, energy guzzling LLMs replacing human analysis partially, the end of ZIRP and free money, capitalism girls gone wild, and more…
Your best way to prepare is to accept the fact that this is a job market that has no resemblance to 2022 or even 2023. You may be ghosted at any phase of the process and that referrals cannot guarantee a first interview anymore. Just getting an actual interview can be marked as an accomplishment.
Start by refreshing your network and brushing up on interview stories - impact, challenges, and learnings. Also, research current hiring trends and typical interview formats in your field so you know what to expect before applying.
