As someone seriously considering switching jobs in the new year, what can I do now to prepare for the search? Other than the obvious of updating my resume. I feel out of practice with everything because it’s been a few years. Not even sure what a recruiting process looks like now.

Confident speaking, research the company so you have knowledge of what they do, see if you know anyone there, be able to provide specific examples of projects you’ve run

Fair warning —be sure to fully understand what you are up against in today’s job market and what it takes to land a new job. The market is over-saturated, hyper-competitive, and many people who have already mastered resume re-writes, interviewing strategies, and networking are struggling to find employment.

I think a lot of people who aren’t actively job searching have no idea how bad the job market really is. This is quite possibly the most challenging job market in two decades given the tariffs, energy guzzling LLMs replacing human analysis partially, the end of ZIRP and free money, capitalism girls gone wild, and more…

Your best way to prepare is to accept the fact that this is a job market that has no resemblance to 2022 or even 2023. You may be ghosted at any phase of the process and that referrals cannot guarantee a first interview anymore. Just getting an actual interview can be marked as an accomplishment.

Start by refreshing your network and brushing up on interview stories - impact, challenges, and learnings. Also, research current hiring trends and typical interview formats in your field so you know what to expect before applying.

FORM50 fitness? Anyone familiar with them? Looks kind of like power Pilates. They only have a New York (Astoria) studio and a Miami studio. Seems like most of the classes are mostly women, and hot pink themes all around. 🏳️‍⚧️🙋🏻‍♀️ and on hrt for about 18 months, so not presenting full time yet. Whether I present female or male, it’s not an environment I’m likely to pass super well in so wondering about how lgbt welcoming it will be. Also if the workout is as lit as people seem to represent.

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.

I’ve been an engineer for my entire career (10 years), and I’m curious about what a move to product management would be like. I would love to hear experiences from those who have spent the bulk of their time in one role and then moved to a product management role. Did you enjoy the move or do you miss your old position?

Hey y'all, kind of a two part question:
1. I enjoy the people management more than individual contributor stuff. What career paths do you see in our industry for people who are managing support engineering teams?
2. What certifications are valued today? Seems like being a AWS Cloud Practitioner is a good general one, but are there others that stand out?

When you recruiters say at the end of a 15 min call.
“I will get back to you by the end of this week” does that really mean “your not right for this position”? Because this whole thing is a waste of time. I’ve did these calls with 3 recruiters and is yet to hear back from someone. Today would be the 4th recruiter that I’ve spoken to. Does this practice annoy you guys just as much as it does us?
