Asking candidates about what they are looking for in their next move has really opened them up to what they are truly looking for, instead of just asking them why they are looking to move.

Looking not to be treated like a low cost service provider, healthy work/life balance, and the chance to create business value through ingenuity and craftsmanship… not sure advertising can really provide that.

uplifting

I respect that. I don’t think advertising is it for you.

Opportunity to grow, good benefits, and plenty of 0’s in the paycheck

A pretty good answer if I must say so myself!

I asked candidates to describe their ideal role.

Also I get turned off when candidates say they want to avoid X or leave Y.

Interesting.. I use this question to determine if this role I am hiring for is a good fit for them too.

Yeah, it's typically better to talk about the things you DO want, it gives a change to turn the conversation in a more positive direction and really get at what drives people.

1000%. I’ve noticed I get truthful answers with the candidates realizing it too.

I’m doing some research on error and empathy. Has anyone come across any research on customer behavior, such as helping them cope with difficulties online and correcting errors. I’m reading and hearing no one likes “We sorry” interactions.

I joined a project that had already started and the team already settled on creating a user journey map, even though none of them are designers or in ux. I also have no experience in this field as I'm a data engineer. The user journey map was for mapping out the process for tenants finding housing assistance, so not a technical product. Given this new field and type of work, I've been having a really tough time. Anyone mind sharing what helped get you through your first ux project?

I got an offer at Meta as a 3-mo contingent CSM that pays 2x what I make now.

Two pros: 1) Making the jump from a non-tech agency role to FAANG can be tough, so this is a great oppo in that aspect.
2) I'm living in SF on a non-tech salary, so the pay increase would be incredible.

It’s possible I could move into a similar role @ Meta once this expires, but to be safe, I'd need to start the job hunt again asap.

Thoughts on the pivot & how valuable a short-stint at Meta is for future job hunt?

If I’m at 150k now as an account director, making a lateral move, what’s the most I could ask for?

Have an offer from a dream company but I'll need to go in at a lower level. Knowing that I can bring a lot of value to the company (read- I know my worth), I negotiated with the hiring manager to have a level/comp review 6 months after employment. If I hit all my goals (ie, prove myself) within that time frame, I'll get a promotion and salary adjustment.
QUESTIONS:
Should this be in writing in the offer letter?
How detailed should it be? I assume I won't know what goals to set till I start...

I’ve noticed that HR, when explaining why a candidate didn’t get the job, tend to lean on “You’re great, but we had candidates with more experience in [skill relevant to the job].” I do believe this is true in some cases, but it can’t possibly be for all of them.

HR folks — what feedback have you obscured by offering that line instead?
