Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?
PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express

Interested in this as well. What about in the kensington / chelsea area without housemates? Single, mid-20s, enjoys all the offerings of a big city (food, nightlife, theatre etc.)

Yes, its quite a bit less than in EU, you do pay 40% on anything above 50k but below that its only 20%. (This is not including social security)
Trade-off is (sort of similar to the US), you end up paying high costs for education and public healthcare is not the greatest.
Single ~70/75k for a good life
Family ~ 150
Think family is low, particularly as the 125-175k gets brutalized by taxes. For a family of four, I'd say 250k to be comfortable and saving.

I had a friend who made $17k and lived in Washington DC. She was comfortable and happy. She was comfortable and happy because she had every single thing she wanted and needed, and her work provided all of the hobby and entertainment she could dream of
I say that to say this question can only be answered by knowing what your metrics are for comfortable
It depends on your personal situation. Do you have kids, where you are planning on living in London? Are you ok with sharing a flat ? Ect
Depends on your interpretation of comfortable and if you have a partner. Some people make London work on 30/40k salaries living with housemates, but to realistically not have to worry and not live with 2/3 other people I would say above 80k but again depends where you want to live as rents fluctuate hugely depending on area and if you’re willing to commute.

Sharing a flat and enjoying yourself - £50k will allow you to save something too
Excluding rent or mortgage, you can live well on £50k. Add in a property, and all bets are off for a ‘comfortable’ salary!
