Normally, I would say at the beginning, but if when you apply for the job, there’s a section asking you what your salary expectations are and you fill that in, then they know where you need to be. If they call you back for an interview, then that means they accept what you’ve put in that section. That’s what happened to me Not one time during my interview process over three months was I ever told what my salary would be. I was nervous, but I knew that what I listed must’ve been within their range if not, they wouldn’t have called. Now by me waiting, I can say my offer was above what I had listed and they also added on a few extra PTO days to sweeten the pot.
True having that section can be helpful but that’s not always an option with every job I’ve applied for.
I guess it depends on whether they list a range or not. If they don’t, I think it is fair to bring it up in a second interview (especially since later round interviews are often not with the hiring manager).
2nd interview sounds safer, you know each other a bit and it’s a little more chill.
Almost immediately. Like first or second call
Okay cool!
Earlier the better
I will do!
That should be part of the HR screen. If expectations don’t align there’s no need to move forward
That’s true I guess, you don’t want to work for a place that won’t pay you what you think you deserve.
I would say right away. If you have clear expectations, they should be communicated. My current employer sought me out from their competitor. I explained to them what I was expecting so it is clear from the beginning. It turned out great. With commissions I am making even more than I expected.
Okay cool, I’ve just always heard it’s an off putting this to say immediately.
I don't want to waste too much of my time or theirs by letting the process go too far without making sure the salary will be a match. I bring it up with the recruiter at the beginning if I can. Otherwise, by the 2nd interview at the latest.
