I have tried to leave. I guess it depends on your position. I have had a hard time transitioning outside of tax because a lot of companies want people with audit experience.
I did - had doing great performance indicators since I started with the firm but I knew Tax wasn’t for me. I ended up switching into transfer pricing and am really liking it. I also considered software engineer or data analyst stuff but decided transfer pricing was a better fit for now. My suggestion would be to take your time to search and look for what you might want to do next. Since your current job isn’t on the line, it’s worth the time to do your research and network with people!
Depends what part of tax is boring you. I moved to a specialty that didn’t have the work that I wanted to avoid. Worked well for me - but obviously not for everyone.
Look at tax accountant job descriptions and see if that appeals to you. Look on linked and indeed and do searches for different terms and see what pops up.
Have you tried other areas in tax or the firm? I find that staying in public accounting required me to reinvent myself every five years or so. Kept it interesting.
This is why I left audit. I moved over to CMAAS and now considering getting my MBA to move into consulting
Make it less boring. I hate tax, but love selling the work 😂
