McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

I’m always triggered when client work are referred to as “cases.” Cases are academic exercises. Clients are real.
Doctors refer to cases in academic or teaching situations, not in practice trying to heal a patient.
In law, case is derived from Latin in a context that does not transfer readily to consultative situations.
Can I say “case closed” 😉
Your autonomy directly correlates with your performance. If you’re good, lots of teams will want you, and you can usually pick which to join. If you’re mediocre and only one team is interested in you at a given time, you’re going to be force-staffed on that team whether you want it or not.
A lot if you’re good and proactive
Former BCGer- lower amount of staffing agency there esp for Associates. If youre good, youll be put on burners. Very little control over your staffing. One off axis colleague tried to take a week of vacation after a 90 hr/week pain fest case and she was written up for gaming the system since that team wanted to sign her on to the next phase and she absolutely did not want to do it again. They forced her onto it anyway
