had to get away

Woo saah. Take a deep breath and try to not think about work this weekend. Start fresh on Monday. Like water off a ducks back, those mistakes are behind you: you are who you choose to be going forward.

Slowwwww down

like

Take a deep breath. It compounds, so you need to break the cycle.

For little mistakes like typos:
- turn on the “spellcheck capitalized words”
- use the “read aloud” function to help proof. You’ll find many more mistakes in grammar this way
- read it backwards

For bigger mistakes:
- ask for advice on how to avoid making that mistake in the future
- have a checklist of your common mistakes, and run through it to check for them
- find what works best for you and stick to it. Copious notes, voice memos, whatever

Not the OP but this is really helpful ,thank you

Start keeping a folder of wins to review on bad days. Ask yourself what is causing the errors. Procrastination is always mine. If it’s just not a good role for you, start to look.

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? This is not my wheelhouse so I’m not sure of the answer. If someone is writing a “memoir” and is including me in it, and I DONT want to be in the book, do I have any legal recourse? I understand since it’s been published it doesn’t meet any invasion of privacy or potential defamation yet, but is there something I can do preliminarily to protect myself and stop my inclusion?

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?
