Only prefer email and most of it use Microsoft teams .. Don't speak over the phone or in teams call...
True! Always ask for a time slot and discuss via virtual meeting or meeting in person. Chats and emails should be avoided for first time information. If you have spoken to your manager in person/virtually and have given an idea about the resignation, then sending an email or chat to further elaborate is alright.
If you are working with your manager for a while its better to talk personally. It is always better to leave amicably. Your life while serving notice will be lot easier
Always inform the manager on call before putting down your papers. Always, irrespective of the fact if you have met him/her or not, worked for a short or a long duration together, or anything else.
Conduct yourself in a professional manner, and it will be beneficial to you.
Ofcourse, if you just drop a random email suddenly, nobody can stop you from leaving. It's all a case of personal choice and preference. Always good to not burn any bridges, and it also puts younin a good light if you discuss before putting down papers.
As for the reason, just say that you got an offer from a company. Simple!
As someone who has recently gone through this process, I strongly advice not to disclose of any offer you hold, unless you want to negotiate better pay with your manager and stay at the current company with a salary hike. If you are firm on leaving the company, you can do two things:
1) Politely mention the reasons of resignation. They could be - how you dont see a growth factor, want to switch to a different career path, moving to work on diversifying your work folio, etc.
2) State that you want to take a short break and have gained valuable experience at current company in diverse domains so want to think about which niche you want to further explore in your career.
This way you get a good recommendation letter from your manager, you leave the company with a positive open-ended relationship and the leaving process can be less stressful for you.
Remember that any offer you hold is confidential and personal for you and the company giving the offer. No one has any right to compulsorily ask you to disclose that information!
Happy resigning and all the best for future!
