...my former firm is continuing to grow and now offering stock options. I have 2.5 yrs exp and only been in new role for 1 yr. Have option to return to prev firm for ~$95k/yr, should I?
Culture at the larger firms are so dependent on group and region and project so I can't really say. Broadly speaking all the larger firms have good culture somewhere. You'd have to network to find out and even then it depends who you end up working for.
Start looking now to make a move by year end! But you can try for bigger firm anyway starting now. Who knows maybe your old firm will match their offer. You are really young in your career so getting large firm experience wouldn't hurt
Smaller firms > big 4
And your question is...?
Absolutely.
I personally would, but that's because I only care about increasing salary, but I know some people are different. So, I guess the appropriate question is: after having been at both firms, where would you be happiest?
Can you stick it out at the current firm to get enough experience to go to a better firm in the future?
EY 2: That’s certainly an option. I’ll likely be promoted to a Senior Analyst at year end... how long would I have to stick it out before looking to jump to a better firm? Is it better to jump to a MBB/B4 vs back to the boutique where there’s good upward mobility and I know I’m liked/respected ?
I also worry about culture... that was a huge loss and oversight in moving to my current firm, so it would be nice going back to what I know is good. What’s the best way to vet for something like this?
