She wouldn’t have got it even I f she hadn’t pulled the phone out. If she performed well it wouldn’t matter.
Also OP who cares they’re kids. We were like this once
I don’t think the phone was a red flag at all. The grades and not preparing for your one shot an interview? Giant red banners.
Huh?
Grades and lack of preparation matter more. I would have found it funny, and I like cats, so the phone would not bother me. I’m actually surprised by difficult questions in an internship interview though. Usually intern and associate interviews are easy.
Right I’ve given interviews from intern to director levels and the lower level ones are always cake walks. Do I think you have a good attitude? Do you seem professional enough? Would I like to train you? We don’t expect them to actually know anything coming in.
Ok that’s not where I thought this was going. I kind of think that’s a normal chain of events? I’m not really even a cat person but would have accepted someone showing me a picture if we were talking about one. Agreed with the poster who said if she performed well it wouldn’t have mattered.
Honestly, as a hiring manager, the lack of preparation would be more negative than the phone. Even the grades are a bigger red flag than the phone.
Young people have been blowing interviews since forever. Part of being inexperienced
lol she thought the interviewer was interested in her so she didn’t prepare for second interview … knowing this was her only chance? Oh boy
You see, that was the biggest red flag for me. She thought the interviewer wanted her so she slack off on prep for the second interview thinking she would coast through
My university had mock interviews for us senior year where recent graduates with PA firms would give us an interview experience for practice before we had the real ones during our graduate program year. I knew the two guys interviewing me (1 was my RA freshman year and the other was a friend all through undergrad). This was way back when cell phones were becoming common but years before smart phones. I totally forgot to use silent mode on my phone and my gf forgot about the interview and called me. I was able to stop the buzz fairly quickly but it was a learning lesson. The guys were like better now than next year. ha
Ouch. Who would just randomly pull out their phone and show things.
