It’s Avianca

Milbank?

Second Milbank. Hughes Hubbard also has a strong aviation finance practice

Pillsbury?

V&E

Clifford Chance, Vedder Price and Milbank are the dominant firms in this space. All have dedicated aviation/transportation finance practices that do a large volume of work for aircraft lessors, banks, airlines, manufacturers, export-import banks, etc.

As others have said, Pillsbury, V&E, Hughes Hubbard, H&K and others also have strong practices. In any of these groups, you truly become a specialized “aviation lawyer” although you practice a wide gamut of substantive law - finance, capital markets, M&A, bankruptcy, sometimes regulatory - just applied exclusively to airplanes.

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.
