This is a huge pet peeve of mine, especially when the person is 100 feet away in the god damn office. Not only do I not send a response, I get up and walk away from my desk, because you know a person like that is watching you read their emails.
Im a fan of “training” people like that how to treat me (if not everybody). I dont write them back, and the next time I see them I say “oh yeah what was that about?” And make them go through it all again. Then Im sweet as can be and do it right away. The lesson: talking to me gets results. Typing emails doesnt.
Works for some people. I have a terrible memory for conversations, so having it in an email gives me reference, in case I forget something we talked about.
Umm, delete? If you don’t reward the behavior, the behavior changes.
That’s why I always respond quickly with a “confirming receipt, i expect to fulfill this request by x. “ ... it covers your but and saves you from emails like that (especially if a bunch of people are cc’d on it as well)

I respond when I am ready to respond with substance. When you actually respond with comments of value, you don’t lose political capital or goodwill by ignoring those types of emails that just jam everyone’s inbox.
