Almost any big 4 staff 2 with an macc and cpa could have written this. I tell you this so you know you two are not alone

I’m a staff 2 and I just landed finance role with no accounting at a F500 company. DM if you want any resume advise. It’s not too late to pivot, but the longer you stay the harder it’ll be.

I’ll be trained I don’t have any relevant experiences but I can talk to people and I understand accounting so I think I can learn
The first question to ask is simply what do YOU want to do? Are there others aspects of business / finance you enjoy? (Operations, Trading, Valuations, etc.)
The truth is you can pivot to anything if you really put your mind to it and are willing to make the short term sacrafices that are required.
Don’t look at it as throwing away. You have the experience and the money you made while doing it paid the bills, which is ultimately the reason we do any work in any field.
Subject Expert
Don’t let “throwing away” deter you from trying something you’re interested in. You’re not throwing anything away, it’s sunk time/cost whether you use your CPA or not.

Throw it away bb. Life is short, let go of some of that pressure you are putting on yourself
You can look into roles in advisory where some of your audit skills can transfer over (transaction advisory, valuation). It’s better pay but longer hours/more fast paced
