Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

And how exactly are you gonna make the switch?
Which advisory group are you wanting to switch to? I started in Tax as an associate and switched to Deal Advisory (FDD). Hours are similar in terms of total hours worked, but they are much less predictable. I.e. in tax you have a busy season for 3 months and know you'll be working ridiculous hours the entire time, but in FDD you may be unstaffed for a week or two and going home at 3pm, then you'll randomly get staffed on a deal. When on a deal, it's hard to know when you'll have to work late. You could get some vital information from the Target company at 7pm and your team will want it to be processed or sent to KGS, so you might end up working super late. Or if you're towards the end of a deal and need to finish a deliverable, you will probably work until 11pm or later to get it done. This is an extreme case and not the norm, but I've been on a deal where we had to stay until between 3am and 5am every night for a week. So just an example of how unpredictable it can be. This is also obviously pre-coronavirus, right now we have very little deal flow.
