If you give them a salary key, yes
Many firms allow for a 10-20% inflation without anything getting flagged ... but if you went above that... you could be in deep doo doo
We specify with HR what we are okay with them revealing. E.g. nothing, confirmimg employment only, confirming a range, providing a range, comfirming exact amount, providing exact amount, etc.
Reach out to HR and ask, unless you're worried about raising red flags.
Depends on what the background check is for - re: Sallie Mae now requires Employment Verification to include comp be provided by employer - as to how much info firm will provide but you have to allow release of information regardless. Without your release the firm will only acknowledge dates of employment
Thanks guys, I went on the higher end because was trying to factor in annual comp raise. Number given is 11% more than new total base. I don't want to accept and have everything blow up in face.
Is number given more than total base + bonus? If not, there's your out.
Yes for this year, no for next year with new base and bonus 😬 honestly not trying to be intentionally dishonest, I don't want to get caught up on a technicality.
Use your total compensation numbers
You'll be fine. Stick to your story. Also... just don't give your two weeks notice until you get a start date and positive feedback via the background check.
Thanks D3 and EY2, I guess right now, there is no way of possibly verifying it because new salary comes into effect on Oct 1, and my pay stubs reflect old salary, which I do not want to disclose lest they think I am dishonest. Additionally, will be against the law come October...
OP - You must have received the communication regarding your new compensation from Hank. You can take a print out of that just to be safe if required if they ask for additional information.
If your inquiring company is based in NYC, there was a law recently passed making it illegal to require prior employer salary. Believe it goes into effect Oct 1. Doesn't help now, but maybe help others
