Yes. You’re an at-will employee, and they most certainly can fire you if you refuse to do legal things that are part of the job. That’s not to say you should do something your uncomfortable doing, just the ugly truth.
Real talk: should you care? they not care about your health or safety. Go over whoever’s head and express your concern. If they fire you, you have the best interview to tell on “why did you leave” Also call out your firm. Save us the hassle of working for them
What sods! If you are shielding, live with someone vulnerable or have some type of care role (even if not formal) with someone vulnerable, can you maybe play that card?
Can you reach out to HR? It would look incredibly bad if they fired you and you wrote a Glassdoor or yelp review, laying out that you were fired, as an immune compromised person, for not wanting to travel at the height of a pandemic.
Can you leave this project and find a new one?
Nope, small firm. Trying to find a new employer

I realize that this is way easier said than done, but you should tell your employer to F off.
Yeah unfortunately unless you’re in an area where nonessential travel is actually barred you’re SOL. However you can be insistent about being required to follow quarantine rules throughout states etc
Do you have a legit medical condition preventing you? If not yes you can be fired
That would be ridiculous. I’m pretty sure they cannot fire you for that. I’d even get a lawyer. If you don’t feel comfortable traveling, I say screw that
If they really might even consider firing you for not traveling right now, that is a very insensitive company. Most companies (US) are leaning so far the other way/ making sure their people are safe.
