Can I stay beyond 6 years / max out date on my H-1B visa if my I-140 is approved and the H-1B renewal petition goes in before my max out date?

As a former Corporate Counsel, now mostly solo practitioner in Federal Court specialty practice is a mixture of Bankruptcy, Immigration, Business Transactions and Employment law.
My question is could I affiliate "of counsel" on part of my practice like say only Employment Law?
