All of the above my guy ! Most of us have multiple projects going on at once (especially if you’re a senior or above). We do interview people, we analyze data, do email and document review and write reports. It also very much depends what solution you are in within forensics at EY for example.

As a director I’m checking the analyses of the team work product, reviewing reports, meeting with client/counsel/agencies, business development, and the abyss of administrative tasks.

I probably have 15 active cases/clients at a time so it’s a lot to juggle.

like

It ranges a lot by person and project, and there’s a lot of variation between different firms/offices.

Most managers I know are juggling 2-4 cases at a time. The really overworked ones 5+. Projects can range from a few weeks to over a decade.

As far as day to day, I would say: lots of research, document management, reviewing email evidence and books & records, interviewing people, analyzing excel data, building financial models, writing reports, building slide decks to present findings, and coaching executives, experts, witnesses, judges, arbitrators, attorneys, and jurors through the details to help them understand the financial aspects of a case.

But it really just depends. I also know people who just focus on 1 case for years on end and do nothing but doc review all day every day which sounds extremely easy but also incredibly boring

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
