Can someone please explain why I'm responsible for my manager's good mood? He comes into the office in a pissy mood because of some personal drama, and if we can't cheer him up, our day will be hell. Shouldn't people in leadership be better at regulating their own moods?

Relatively new in Big4 M&A advisory doing mostly integration work with some pre deal DD mixed in. I recently heard L.E.K. Consulting places well in MM PE but don't know much about them otherwise. We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?
