Cheers 🥂 What an amazing 6 years with this firm

Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

A 4 year degree is simply proof you know how to do what you're told for 40 hr/week
Erm, it’s just a screening tool. First, to indicate you were able to stay disciplined and jump through the many hoops required to get in and complete your degree. Second, that you’ve gone through the same experience as your future coworkers, increasing likelihood you’ll fit in. If your major was quantitative it may be taken as an indicator of general numeracy.
College and post-graduate degrees are the only differentiators that employers can utilize to attempt to identify potential employees. The expansion of people obtaining college degrees is the direct cause for college degrees having no value. If everyone has one, it's not worth anything. So now employers are turning more and more to utilizing post-graduate degrees as a differentiator.
Signaling theory
Can the require skills set be acquired in much shorter time - 6 month, 1 yr
There are no “required skills”. If we could administer a three part test consisting of IQ, whether you’ve ever been boating or skiing, and then formatting 20 slides while being timed that would also work.
That’s essentially what we are using college to screen for.
This is true for most jobs though. I studied Electrical Engineering and most of my college friends now working as engineers are maybe using content from 2 or 3 classes.
