Career advice needed

Not humble bragging, as I realize it is a tough market and there are many out of jobs.

Currently a writer at a top retail brand, but the work isn’t portfolio-worthy, the company’s struggling, and I'm likely to be replaced by AI.

I have an offer from a financial services company for a senior sales-enablement role with much better comp. It would pivot me toward CRM and business impact work, which is safer from AI.

Should I take the leap in today's ad industry?

I don't think you'll be any safer from AI if you make the switch to CRM. In fact, I feel like you'd be worse off. AI (at least for now) does a better job at pumping out dry content writing versus being able to conceptualize a creative campaign.

My general advise to you is to go where an agency is integrating AI into their work streams. Until it advances enough, good companies know AI is a tool, not a replacement for staff. That's if you want to be employable in the next 5+ years.

But as a whole, I do agree, it's worth pivoting away from the ad industry. Advertising right now is basically a lot of talent fighting over the scraps. Unless you're really, really talented as a creative (like you can dream up ideas no one can) or you have strong network connections, I suggest you take the new gig.

To stay ahead, I concur that AI will be desired skill set in advertising and other industries moving forward. I'm already hiring creative contractors based on niche knowledge in AI.

If it’s more money you should go for it.

"but the work isn’t portfolio-worthy"

It's past time to make it so.

"It would pivot me toward CRM and business impact work, which is safer from AI."

No. It's self-evidently not.

Only physical jobs are currently safe from 'AI' replacement.

That said, if AI can do so much, why does ChatGPT have a human in charge of their marketing?

Sounds like both roles are pretty lousy, so at least take the one that pays more…

Yeah. Copywriting is the easiest to replace and brings the least well rounded people into the discussions which tends to make people look down upon the profession.

Do whatever you can to no longer have your title be “copywriter” or “writer”.

AI is going to get all of us at some point anyway, so take all the money you can get now.

If you get a very uncompetitive offer from a company and you counter, and they decline every element of your counteroffer what does it say about the company in your opinion? Would you still take the opportunity?

I am looking to leave my current position due to not having the opportunity to run campaigns and earn experience.
However, every interview I get asked about the campaigns that I have run.
This is starting to feel like a closed loop. Any ideas are appreciated.

I do create some personal campaigns and do social media content on LinkedIn for my personal profile. That is why I get a high number of interviews but I stumble at the starting line.
