Currently in mid 30s, and I have lived in both cities for multiple years as a consultant in Big 4. Much prefer Atlanta over Charlotte. Neighborhoods have much more character. ATL has more amenities and things to do. Population feels more diverse (Not sure if the stats say it is) and it's been easier to make a diverse group of friends in terms of background and career and upbringing and such. Also love the diversity of clients I have has here locally if you want to try some local projects. Housing is a bit more expensive in ATL than CLT and houses and buildings tend to be older because it's not as new of a city as CLT. My 2 cents is Atlanta over Charlotte any day. Some disagree with me if they want the more traditional suburban home with 2 to 3 kids. We plan on remaining in the city even if we decide to have kids. The proximity of suburbs to the city is a little better in CLT if that's what you're seeking when you say "settle down."
Some of those up and coming neighborhoods you named, Inman Park and Grant Park in particular are now million dollar neighborhoods. You can still get a nice 3/2 for mid 400’s in kirkwood. Decatur 3/2’s pushing into upper 500’s low 600’s
Went through this decision last year decided to settle down in Charlotte. Don't regret. Flying in and out of airport is easy, less traffic compared to Atlanta. Descent price homes.
Skip Atlanta.
Skip charlotte. Grew up there and lived in ATL for 2 years. Clt makes Atl seem elite. Major airport, major consulting presence, superior exit ops, superior bars/restaurants/nightlife.
Charlotte is a clean mid size city...Atlanta is large and extremely fun. If you’re going to live the suburb life go Charlotte if you want the city life go Atlanta.
Not gonna lie... Atlanta is not an easy city to get to know, because we have a lot of little neighborhoods and communities, and each has its own character. Confusing until you get to know it. But the flip side of that is everybody can find their little niche and be happy. Rent first for at least six months until you find a community you love
