Client cut my team hours 50%. Now I'm not on track to hit util, sales or mgrev tgts by 6/30 EOY, pipeline=0 and layoffs are likely. Should I bust my butt to try to keep my job, or focus on job search?

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. What book have you read that was helpful for your career and/or that you would recommend? Could be a technical book, management, etc. For me, it’s a book I read a few years ago: The Phoenix Project. I never thought I would read and like a novel about DevOps but I recommend it to all my managers.

Is MBB and management consulting losing its value among young people as employer? Since i noticed majority of young people currently want to work for FAANG, startups, crypto, Unicorns, want to open their own things, etc. I guess in 2000s and 2010s consulting was a top choice for graduates.
