Colleagues have told me the CISSP felt more like a reading comprehension test more than a cybersecurity knowledge test. Thoughts?

Yeah that holds some merit. The actual exam doesn’t test you for how well you memorize stuff. It’ll test you mainly on how cyber decisions impact the business, and the correct answer is the one that prioritizes business impact.

Personally I wouldn’t say reading comprehension was my takeaway from what the exam focuses on, per se. But you need to read and reread some questions because there can be a few correct answers if you consider the various perspectives across multiple cyber roles. However, your role in the exam is a business-first cyber manager, give or take.

For context - I took and passed the exam back in 2019.

Great insight, thanks!

Whoever said that needs to try the AWS Solutions Architect exam.

You definitely need a lot of cyber knowledge to pass. It is not an easy test.

CISA is a worse reading test. You actually need some knowledge for CISSP

Currently creating spend analysis and doing vendor onboarding work for my company. It’s becoming a little mundane after 3-4 years. This was my first job out of college and I don’t really know how I got into this path. Graduated in business management and marketing. I am super creative and feel like a need a job that allows me to showcase that, but not sure what. Wondering if anyone works in the business world but also mixes with the creative side.

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?
