Hi everyone! I’ve spent just 6 months in audit but I realized it isn’t for me and I am interested in pursuing a career as a Government & Public Services Risk & Financial Advisory Analyst.
I have one busy season under my belt but I was planning on staying in audit until I have 2 busy seasons worth of experience. If I know I don’t want to be in audit and I’m interested in advisory, how soon should I start applying?

I see at Deloitte they have openings for Business consultant roles and Risk & Financial Advisory roles open. However I have see many negative comments regarding the Risk & Financial Advisory role. Would someone at Deloitte be able to elaborate more on this reason. And if it’s true that the pay range for both of these jobs are very different (Consultant much higher pay range). I can say for West Monroe you’ll likely get better WLB here than at the other two. Culture is also very strong here, amazing people and lots of events every week. Downside can be that projects can be long term (6 - 12 months) and basically staff aug. But that’s just my personal experience.
WLB is a bit higher than industry standards, but maybe lower than local-only firms like Slalom. Flexible time off is very ingrained in the workforce.
Culture is very fun and laid back. Like WM1 said, we have weekly events. Happy hours, food events, hybrid in-person/virtual games. I’d say most offices develop a quirky/funny personality that makes this a fun place to work. A lot of people were ready to get back into the office because we legitimately missed our colleagues.
Pay is constantly being evaluated against market rates. We received 2 raises this year, first as an annual performance review and the second as a special study on COVID labor market increases. So the firm is very fairly compensated, if not at the MBB/FAANG range. I make the same (or a bit more) than most of my friends at my level in ACC and Deloitte.
Worked at both, you’ll enjoy West Monroe more. Exit opps tend to be the same, can always go to big firm after a few years.
If this is your 1st job out of college, go to Accenture. They will have the best training and support for new analysts compared to any mid sized or boutique firm. If you don’t like ACN after a year or so, then look to jump to a smaller firm.
