Our agency announced today that we will be using AI to generate copy and keeping copywriters on retainer to “review” what it gives us. It’s a scary time.
Ewwww
If everyone learns a trade it’ll just destroy the trades in a race to the bottom for wages.
White collar work is so screwed - those jobs that will remain after the bean counters send as much to AI as possible are now in a globalised market where someone in Bangladesh will do it for 25% of the cost.
Western salaries are completely uncompetitive without added value that makes them worth it. You may not like it, but this is the end result of a borderless world. Business doesn’t care about your local living costs - they care about number on spreadsheet.
Gotta think about how to leverage these new tools, not run away from them. Because they aren’t going away.
CD 1 makes a key point here. It has become very hard in many cases to provide enough “added value” to support the higher wages. For much of advertising, what once required “magical” writing or art direction skills can now be done well enough by many, for less. While it is not exactly the same thing, this is what has happened to the steel business - lots & lots of companies can now make quality steel for a lot less than US Steel back in the day.
Most agencies and brands are going this route as quickly as possible.
In the eyes of leadership, AI doesn’t have to be good to cut the expense of employees in favor of more profit… it just has to be “good enough.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great tool. Problem is that c-suites are striving to have it replace creatives completely ASAP even though the tech is still 6-8 years off.
Yes, pivoting to something where the human body is needed - events set up (expos, concerts, cocktails, pop up events), nursing, radiology tech, electrician, construction/architectural project supervisor, mechanic, chef, pet groomer, race barn manager, childcare worker, etc.
Funny/ ironic bc it claims to be the more ethical AI company …
